About SocialEraser

Built by one person who got tired of clicking "Delete" a thousand times.

The story

A few years ago, I wanted to clean up my old tweets. Nothing dramatic — just a long backlog of inside jokes, half-thoughts, and screenshots that stopped being funny around 2017. I figured it would take a few minutes. Maybe an hour.

It took three days.

X let me delete tweets one at a time. Each one meant: scroll, click the menu, click "Delete", click "Confirm", wait for the page to refresh, scroll again, repeat. I had over 4,000 tweets. At roughly ten seconds per item, that was eleven hours of clicking. I gave up after the first afternoon.

I tried the existing tools. Most of them wanted my password, my API keys, or my credit card. The few that didn't still ran everything through their servers — meaning every like, every follow, every DM had to travel through someone else's database to be deleted. I wasn't comfortable with that. I shouldn't have to trust a stranger's database to clean up my own account.

So I built SocialEraser.

What we believe

What we're not

We're not affiliated with X, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook — and we never will be. We don't sell your data (we don't have any). We don't run ads. We don't take investment from platforms whose APIs we use. If any of those things change, we'll announce it loudly, in advance, before it happens.

We are a tiny team — currently one developer, sometimes two — building something we wish had existed years ago. The extension is free, the code is on GitHub, and the only thing we ask in return is that if it helps you, you tell a friend.
